What is this announcement about?

The Design System Squad is announcing the release of our OLYSENSE Design System Coverage Tool . The OLYSENSE Design System Coverage Tool is intended to identify and communicate the level of coverage by applications who are utilizing the OLYSENSE Design System. More specifically, it shows a breakdown for all applications, by page for each application, and lastly a granular view of each page (route) in an application. The OLYSENSE Design System Coverage Tool can be accessed from the OLYSENSE Developer Portal .

Why should I care about it?

The visual coverage tool serves a variety of purposes:

Increased Collaboration - Provides squads a straightforward way to see how much of their application is using the design system, offering a bridge of communication between designers and engineers as they work to increase our design system coverage.

Design System Evolution - Helps easily identify which ODS components are used the most and which ones are used the least, providing valuable feedback to the continued evolution of the design system.

However, while a useful indicator, visual coverage is a secondary metric reflecting the health of a design system, not an ultimate goal to be pursued at the expense of other important aspects. It should be viewed as a litmus test for the effectiveness of design system initiatives and how well they are being adopted, rather than a singular target to be maximized.

Who should care about it?

Developers - It can be challenging to know how much of your application is leveraging the design system, and where there’s potential for improvement. This tool gives you a quick and easy way to see this as your application evolves.

Designers - This tool is a great way to have a conversation with the engineers on your team, identifying potential gaps in designs and enabling designers one more mechanism to evolve their designs over time.

What should I do this with this info?

As indicated above, this is a tool meant to increase transparency and collaboration among the squads. We recommend squads use this tool to slowly increase their adoption of the OLYSENSE Design System over time.
